Video - John Piper's Christ-Centered Grammar at SBTS

This may be the most Christ-exalting language I've ever heard. This is one reason why I love Dr. Piper's preaching - he is relentless in pointing me to Jesus. You can listen to the whole sermon here.

This is our 5th post on Piper and we have at least one more to go. Here are the first four.

Other SBTS bloggers were talking about Piper this week.

Dr. Ware, Resurgence, and the Hands of God and Men

Dr. Bruce Ware recently spoke the the Spring Resurgence Conference of Mars Hill Church (Mark Driscoll is lead pastor). The title of the conference was called "Where the Hand of God and the Hands of Men Meet." The first session was entitled "The Uncertain Hands of God and Men: Providence in Process Thought and Open Theism." The second session was "Independent Hands of God and Men: Providence in Classic Arminianism." The third and final session was "Coordinated Hands of God and Men: Providence in the Reformed Tradition." You can listen to an interview of Dr. Ware by Resurgence about the conference by clicking here. Want to listen to more? Check out this nice collection of Dr. Ware's messages at this blog.

Of late, Dr. Ware's name has been dropped here and there from the Executive Committee Meeting to a recent Baptist Press article in an attempt (I presume) to criticize him for his affiliation with Mark Driscoll and the Acts 29 Network (BTW, check out their doctrinal statement - it's well done). I for one found this conference very encouraging and the partnership between the two even more promising. What do you think?

The Passion and Joy of John Piper

Here are some photos I took today at chapel (Piper's message can be downloaded by clicking here). Thought I'd share them with you. I have about 20-25 that I will upload, granted that Flickr doesn't give me problems. Any SBTS blogger interested in using the photos in any posts is welcome to them. You can see more here.

Welcome to Southern Dr. John Piper - you're bad and we are too

John Piper has responded to this song-video. Naturally, those comments are now included in "JOHN PIPER IS BAD - THE EXTENDED EDITION"

Piper warns that Southern is "posh"

Here is an audio clip from the 1999 Mullins Lectures where John Piper warns seminarians about the dangers of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I've added some visuals to accommodate your attention span. **Video updated 3/27/07

John Piper @ Southern Next Week

Tuesday, March 27th and Thursday, March 29th John Piper will be back at Southern Seminary Chapel. I was at Boyce when he came in 1999. The whole campus was turned upside down. He even spent the week visiting classrooms and taking questions. Everywhere guys were talking about his "passion." His people handed out free cassettes at the post office. This was where I first hear "Christian Hedonism." A week later I was reading Desiring God - then Edwards.

I fully expect some of you clever bloggers to try to get an interview with him while he is on campus. Maybe Timmy could pull it off?

To get a head start on next week's visit I am linking two of his sermons from the Mullins Lectures in 1999. Enjoy.

Sept. 14, 1999:
"Why Does Preaching Have Such a Prominent Place in Worship"

Sept. 16, 1999: "A Zeal That Accords with Knowledge"

Format Updates

At great peril I modified the code for a three column format. I added several new feeds. Keep them coming.

New Audio Features Added & Alumni Links Wanted

To the right you'll see several podcasts from Southern affiliated people. If you know of more let me know. I'd also like to link alumni with content online.
